We collaborated with Peer 1 on 1 Beachside, a Long Beach community program dedicated to fostering shared experiences without separation by ability. Participants ranged in age from five years old through high school and were paired with local high school students and CSULB volunteers to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment.

Individuals of diverse backgrounds and abilities came together to explore the expressive and therapeutic potential of clay. Rather than emphasizing a prescribed outcome, participants engaged with the material according to their own sensory preferences, discovering multiple ways to touch, shape, and respond to clay.

This workshop reinforced the idea that the value of making is not always found in the object taken home, but in the experience itself. The tactile, social, and creative interactions become embodied memories, experiences archived within us that shape our sense of connection, confidence, and belonging long after the dirt has settled.
